Get to Know the Elder Candidates

At the Congregational Meeting on Sunday, February 19, at 12:00 PM, members will have the opportunity to vote for the following candidates to join the Elder Board. Here's a little more about them, in their own words:

Having been a member of PBF since 1985, and having previously served on the Elder Board for a number of years, I am excited and grateful for another opportunity to serve the members this congregation.  I suspect that given my age, being called an “Elder” has a certain authenticity to the title.  However, knowing each of the members of our Elder Board, I look forward to our collective commitment and task to “care for the people” of PBF. (Hebrews 12:17; 1Peter 5:1-3)

Having taken an early retirement from the financial industry in 1990, God lead me to pursue several opportunities that resulted in community service, as well as the spiritual development of men and women in the marketplace.

For 14 years I served as a member of the board of the CK School District, and most recently (for 10 years) served as a member of the board of the Olympic Educational Service District.

In 1991, I began a ministry called Marketplace CrossTalk which are small groups (5-10 members), comprised of business and professional men and women (some retired), that meet once a week for an hour of discussion, study, and prayer.  Currently, I have three such groups, as well as a PBF Care Group. In addition, I was lead to start the Kitsap Leadership Prayer Breakfast in 1986, which just celebrated it’s 36thyear of outreach to the community.

I have been married to Helen (Stolee) for the past 62 years, and we have three grown children, six grandchildren, and one great grandchild. Helen just recently retired from the Pregnancy Resource Services of Kitsap County where she served as the Executive Director for the past 30 years.

I am truly excited about the opportunity to serve God in a new role at Peninsula Bible Fellowship.  Cathy and I started attending PBF about the same time that Brent joined us as Lead Pastor. Prior to that, we had strong connections to PBF through Mothers of Preschoolers (MOPS)(Cathy was a co-coordinator one year) and the Summer in the USA program hosting students from the Basque region of Spain. While at PBF, I've served on the A/V team running sound (and occasionally even playing the guitar!) and at Teen Reach Adventure Camp. I've also been mentoring one of the campers for the last five years or so. Prior to PBF, we were founding members of North Point Church in Poulsbo and have been members of other Presbyterian churches in the area. We have 3 kids - Allison (married to Max Janusch, former worship intern here at PBF), Zachary (junior at Boise State) and Grace (junior at Boise State). My kids have grown in the youth programs here and have continued to live their faith after graduating out of the youth program which is a testament to the quality of the program here! I enjoy playing the guitar, reading and have become a fairly avid disc golfer over the past several years. I'm looking forward to this opportunity to serve God in a new and different way at PBF!
